WHAT WE ARE ABOUT

  • Horse rescue and sanctuary
  • Youth outreach program
  • Horse camps
  • Horses for Love is an all volunteer, non-profit organization located at Canada Stables 20865 Canada Rd. in Lake Forest, California. We have just moved to this facility in January 2008 after the Modjeska Canyon Fire and Mud slide destroyed our facility. WE lost all of our horse tack and supplies, fortunately we were able to get all of the horses out in the nick of time (literally). It was a very traumatic time for us and we are slowly getting our program back together. Any help from you is appreciated. Retired, neglected and unwanted horses are taken in with much love and care. We have combined our horses with a youth outreach program to teach proper horse care and horsemanship.

Founder, Marie MacInnes began Horses for Love in June 2000 after seeing what horse owners do with horses that don't pull there weight. Owners think that after a horse has lived out it's show life or has ringbone, that there isn't much use for them. The horses are then neglected, losing weight, having feet problems being left alone for the most part. The kids in our youth outreach program and adult volunteers don't mind if the horse limps or is 38 years old. They enjoy grooming them and taking them for hand walks and learning.

Our youth outreach program is open to anyone over 11 years of age. It is a work and ride share program and there is a $25.00 annual membership fee. This allows the members free horsemanship classes and a unlimited amount of learning experience.

We have ten horses that we use in our youth outreach program Moxy, Hercules, Buster, Joker, Ebony, Moxy, Rambo, Raven, Bambi and TJ. Our newest project horse is Levi an 18 hand Oldenburg who was going to be euthanized because the owner didn't want him anymore. The horse is sound and we are working on putting weight on him. Joker is up for half lease. Hercules and Levi are up for Adoption. New horses receive a vet check, worming and a chiropractic adjustment. All horses are given supplements that have chondrotin sulfate, MSM, glucosamine and yucca. We pride ourselves in taking care of our horses and volunteers.

We need a new location for our growing program in Trabuco Canyon. If anyone has information about land sales or leases please e-mail me immediately. Donated land is tax-deductable. Our program will only be successful from volunteers, sponsors and donations. Whether you live close to us or far away you can make a difference in the lives of our horses and youth outreach program.
