If you're looking for a rabbit to adopt in Colorado, please check out the Colorado HRS web site.

The New Mexico members of the House Rabbit Society now have a Petfinder page. Please go to http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/NM110.html to see all the rabbits for adoption and read some success stories from rabbits who've found good homes.

The Albuquerque Petco stores on Lomas on the east side and Old Airport Road on the west side now have spayed/neutered and microchipped rabbits available for adoption courtesy of the shelters at Albuquerque Animal Control . Please visit these bunnies to help socialize them and also please thank Petco for providing this invaluable service! The adoption fee for the rabbits will go to the House Rabbit Society.

UPCOMING ALBUQUERQUE RABBIT ADOPTATHON AT PETCO! Our next adoptathon will be Saturday, September 27th, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Albuquerque Petco on Lomas!  Please stop by to see all the wonderful rabbits shown here (plus a few new ones from the Santa Fe shelter) and to have all your rabbit questions answered.

DONATE TO HELP US WITH VET EXPENSES AND SPAYING/NEUTERING! You can donate to help our rescuers care for the Petco and shelter bunnies by sending a check to the House Rabbit Society Headquarters and in the memo section of the check write "FOR NEW MEXICO OPERATIONS". All contributions received will go directly to the medical expenses of the rabbits.

OTHER BUNNY NEWS - The Petsmart on Academy in Albuquerque is now selling Oxbow products on a limited basis. Stop by if you are interested in buying their rabbit food in 5 lb bags or their Botanical Hay. They may stock more of Oxbow's rabbit products if this trial goes well.

ADOPTION SUCCESS STORIES - Be sure and check out our brand new Four Corners Bunnies page (link on left hand sidebar) with photos of bunnies who've been adopted from us enjoying their new homes.

bernie1.jpg
Bernie

Meet Bernie. Bernie is a dutch dwarf who was found as a stray. He is very mild-mannered and doesn't mind being held for long periods of time. Bernie is currently working on his litterbox training and we think he is making quite a bit of progress! We think Bernie must have had a mate at one time and being separated from her has made him depressed. For that reason, Bernie must be adopted out as a mate to another rabbit --- Or, let us match Bernie up with one of our girls and you can adopt a pair!

Bernie is currently in foster care with Deb Schaefer - please contact Bill Velasquez if you are interested at 292-6030 or email Deb directly at deblschaefer@qwest.net .

Diamond and Destiny

Diamond and Destiny, a bonded pair, were dumped at the Albuquerque Animal Control shelter on Lomas where they were separated. For many weeks they were known by just their shelter ID and their names "the white pair." Thanks to their wonderful foster mom Victoria they now have proper names! He is a diamond in the rough and she is destined for great things. Diamond had an eye infection and Destiny was almost completely yellow with urine stains and she was absolutely terrified to be at the shelter and to be separated from her best buddy.

With the loving care of our volunteers, Diamond and Destiny were able to have short visits together to calm her down and their cages were at least kept in eye sight of each other so they'd still feel "kind of together". They are both fixed and Diamond is finally getting medical care for his eye infection. Without the love of our volunteers Diamond would have been put down and Destiny would have been adopted out alone and scared, possibly never to recover. Now they have each other again and things are really looking up for them! For more information on these sweet bunnies and information on adopting them (they definitely need to stay together) contact Bill Velasquez at bill@rabbit.org or call him at (505) 292-6030. They will both be available for adoption at our next Adoptathon on September 27.

Patty

Patty is a sophisticated lady bunny who comes to us from Santa Fe. She is friendly and loving. She is looking for a home where she can stretch out and be a queen. Perhaps there is also a king in her future to spend time lounging with. Patty would do best in a home without dogs or small children. Patty is in foster care with Bill Velasquez – please call him at (505) 292-6030 or email bill@rabbit.org for more information about this sweet girl.

Java

Java is a very sweet and friendly bunny and is available for immediate adoption at the Westside Petco on Old Airport Road.  We don’t know much about him except that he was rescued from a kind stranger’s back yard where he was a stray getting in to the vegetable garden. He's hoping for a forever home where he can get all the attention and love he deserves. For more information about this wonderful bunny, please contact Bill Velasquez at bill@rabbit.org or calling him at (505) 292-6030

Mr. Socks

Mr. Socks has the most wonderful curly soft fur that you can imagine.  You really have to pet him in person to appreciate it.  Please contact his foster dad Rick Haseman in Rio Rancho at 934-4370 or email haseman@abq.com to arrange a visit with this very special rabbit. Come to our next Adoptathon on Sept. 27 to pet the softest rabbit you've ever met!

fiona2.jpg
Fiona

Meet Fiona!  Her binkies may not be the river dance of her Celtic namesake, but they have all the same joy.  She is a wonderful medium sized girl who is just a little shy because of all the recent changes in her life.   She is learning how to be a good house bunny and has tackled her litterbox training with enviable speed!   Now she longs to be in a patient loving home where she promises to blossom in to a loving bunny if only given the chance to roam her surroundings.    She also hopes to someday meet a special boy bun to share her alone time with. Fiona is currently in foster care waiting to be adopted! Contact Bill Velasquez at bill@rabbit.org for further information about this sweet girl.

joey1low.jpg
Joey

Joey is in foster care waiting patiently for a loving forever home. He's just an adorable fun loving young guy who loves to explore. He is very friendly and will lick your hand soon after meeting you. His foster dad says Joey is the sweetest bunny he's ever met! Joey is adventurous and looking for a home where he will be allowed to roam around a little and have lots of fun. This sweetheart of a rabbit really deserves a great life! For more information on Joey, please contact  Bill Velasquez at (505) 292-6030 or via email at bill@rabbit.org.
