How to keep water from stinking

I hope to get a serious answer here. I havebeen reading the other posts and for some reason its seems to me that the people over here are all a bunch of teeangers or something...oh well heres my question. How can I prevent the water in my 29 gallon turtle tanks from smelling? I have one RES in it and its about 4 inches. I am running a Filstar XP2. I just can't seem to get rid of the smell? Any help would be appreciated.
