Charter members Al and Jeanne Vaill along with 10 interested rabbit breeders started the Nutmeg Rabbit Association in 1979 and membership continues to grow.

The first Nutmeg Rabbit Shows were held at the Bethlehem Fair Grounds. The show moved to the Goshen Fair Grounds in 1990. The show quickly outgrew the rabbit barn where it started to now being held in the cattle barn.

The first meeting place for the association was a bank in Woodbury. The meetings were moved to a church basement in Thomaston and then to the Thomaston library. In 2001 the meetings moved to the current location at the Bethlehem Fair Ground office building.

The Nutmeg Rabbit Breeders Association has been a American Rabbit Breeders Association charted club since 1979. The goals of the association are to educate and assist in the promotion of responsible rabbit and cavy raising . We actively encourage youth membership and the opportunity to learn from experienced breeders. It is through education that we can help to increase the level of quality of rabbit and cavy raisers.

Rabbit and cavy raisers of all levels are welcome to join. From the beginner interested in keeping a rabbit or cavy as a pet to commercial breeders, we all have information that we can share with one another. Many times there are questions that an individual will ask that we will research and provide the answer back to the group so that many benefit.

The Nutmeg Rabbit Breeder's Association is the sponsor of the annual Nutmeg Rabbit Show held at the Goshen Fairgrounds in Goshen Connecticut. There are opportunities for all members to participate and to help with the tasks required to produce a successful show. It is through this participation that the show has continued to grow in interest.
