Spice of LifeBolognese

WHAT IS THE BOLOGNESE

The Bolognese is an ancient breed going back to Roman times. During the Middle Ages it became the companion of the aristocracy of Italy.  It was bred in Bologna, Italy and was adored for its affectionate and loving personality. In the name of diplomacy these dogs were given to other heads of state in Europe.  Maria Sophia of Austria loved her little Bolognese so much that she had it stuffed after it died.

Many of the dogs went to Belgium during the 1600's as gifts to the nobility and wealthy influential merchants of Belgium. Even the Czar and Czarina of Russia had Bolognese. During the Russian Revolution the servants of the nobility saved the dogs from the destruction of the revolution. This is the basis for the dog in Russia today

The personality and temperament of the Bolognese is outstanding. They will spend time entertaining themselves by tossing a small piece of dog food into the air and catching it. They will crawl into your lap and push the paper out of the way saying, "Hey, I'm the news right now." They will follow you from room to room, even if you are only going to be gone for a couple of minutes. Love and companionship are their second names.
