Dog Visitation Program

Dog Visitation Program for Volunteers

To participate in the Dog Visitation Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, you must be at least 21 years old, your dog must be at least one year old and must pass a behavioral evaluation given by Cincinnati Children's.

After your dog passes this test, you will be given a standard volunteer application that must be submitted to Volunteer Services for review.

Behavioral evaluations for dogs take place only once a year so you may have to wait before your dog can be evaluated. Please be patient. We want and encourage your participation. Unfortunately, because the training program for new volunteer dog / handler teams is rather extensive, we have had to limit the number of times in a year that new dog / handler teams are admitted to the program.

If you are interested in having your name put on our waiting list for the next behavioral evaluation, please fill out the Dog Visitation Program Application. You will be contacted to set up a temperament testing for your dog. These tests are held once a year. If your dog passes this test, you will be given an application to become a Cincinnati Children's Volunteer.

To find out the dates for the next behavioral evaluation, you can contact Dog Visitation Program Coordinator Edith Markoff, PhD, at 513-636-7459, edith.markoff@cchmc.org.
