Puppy Mills Help Shut them Down!!!
There are about 5,000 puppy mills right here in America! Five thousand prisons where many innocent dogs and puppies suffer and die each year in incredibly horrendous conditions. Sometimes the conditions may not be as bad as others, but they're never even close to "good" conditions and they all breed masses of dogs for sheer profit. Their only concern is money, not the health and well-being of the breed. A majority of the dogs that come from puppy mills have MANY genetic problems and many diseases. (Take this from someone who knows firsthand!) The dogs are bred up to 5 times a year. A female dog only has two heat cycles and they are only supposed to be bred at the MOST once a year. I bought a Miniature Pinscher from Petland on January 6, 2000. She had patella luxation (a genetic problem where the knee cap does not sit deep enough causing tremendous pain, and when one puppy of the litter has it, almost all of them do). She had four surgeries and finally died on March 26, 2001. I loved her so much and she was such a wonderful dog. It took a lot of work to make her that way though. She was almost impossible to housebreak (after living, eating, sleeping in her own filth), and she had a problem with eating things that were not food. After she died I have been trying to contact the manager at that Petland, and guess what? Every time I call she's conveniently "not there." Well I hope they go out of business because what they're doing, breaking people's hearts every day, is WRONG! Just think of all the dog lovers that don't know about puppy mills, who buy a puppy from a pet store, and then they die or run up thousands of dollars in vet bills. It's so sad and I intend to do my part to stop it. Because of my own experiences with a puppy mill puppy, I am most determined to educate people about these puppy mills so that more and more people will boycott pet stores so we can shut these places down. Dateline even did a special on puppy mills, trying to expose this abuse. PLEASE do not buy ANYTHING from a pet shop that sells puppies! Don't be angry at yourself if you've already bought a dog from a pet store, I did too. It's only because of our ignorance and deep love for dogs that we got them in the first place, but please help the rest of these dogs and all the shelter and rescue dogs have a chance! Save the lives of many dogs who never step out of their cramped cages, who never see the light of day and never get a hug or kisses, just beatings and numerous litters of puppies. It's sad, but the more you want to take that puppy in the window home, the more puppies that will be looking out through rusty wire cages at puppy mills, hopefully not dying from the heat or starvation.

There are also what are called "dog auctions." This is just as sad because almost all of the dogs are somehow sick or deformed. These dogs are being auctioned from a puppy mill and most of them are going to another puppy mill. WHAT IS A PUPPY MILL AUCTION? Read about two witnessed auctions here: www.hua.org/prison.html
The best way to help stop puppy mills is to educate yourself on this subject. It's hard to accept and it's so sad to think about, but it's the only way to stop these animal abusers. Please use the information and links below to educate yourself and tell everyone you know about puppy mills. Tell everyone NOT to buy from a pet store, and only buy from a reputable hobby breeder.
