 Welcome to Vicky Welch Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier home page. Our goal is to raise top quality Yorkshire Terriers (also known as Yorkies) and Maltese dogs that are an excellent representative of the AKC breed standard. Our puppies are well socialized, calm, outgoing little darlings with very happy tails. We breed for type as well as temperament.
Tim and I have been around dogs all of our lives. I grew up with Border Collies that were true workers and top hands on our ranch and Tim grew up participating in Field Trials with some great German Shorthaired Pointers and English Springer Spaniels. One of the first things that we did after we moved into our first house was to get 2 dogs----a rescued Poodle and a Border collie mix puppy.
When we had children we needed to look for a dog that did not shed or cause any allergic reactions, as our kids were bothered with allergies, leading us to Yorkies and Maltese. These two breeds make wonderful pets for someone suffering from allergies. I then purchased several Champion Show dogs from Gumwood Kennel when Sheryl Mackey retired.
We've always tried to be good stewards of our land and animals. We strive not to over vaccinate our dogs or to use harsh chemicals. We are always looking for a ways to be "more green". I prefer the organic approach to keep our yard flea and tick free so that we don't need to use any flea control on our Yorkies and Maltese. I am always reading and researching about holistic vet care and ways to help our dogs live long healthy lives.
