On
Saturday and Sunday, September 20th & 21st, several Happy Trails
representatives attended a very informative, educational seminar at
the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glenn, New York. Board Member Rob
Willard, and Executive Director, Annette Fisher, brought
back a lot of information and some great photos of their facilities,
shelter areas and our class. Happy Trails is always seeking to pattern
our organization after the bigger and much more established
sanctuaries, and constantly strive to learn from their expertise. This
photo collage starts out with their Welcome Center (People Barn)
building, and gives you a look around at all the wonderful educational
displays. The photo tour then takes you along several roads to the
various animal shelters, and shows our class listening intently to the
wonderful animal-health-care presentations given by Susie. I also took
note of the important signage along the way. We were very happy to see
that Farm Sanctuary's goat climbing playground, made by the local boy
scouts, held up under the weight of our class for this fun photo opp!
Many thanks to Farm Sanctuary for sharing their knowledge and
for mentoring us smaller organizations!!!

March
29th, 2008 was a simply beautiful spring day here at the
sanctuary. Many of the animals were out and about, as well as some
dedicated member of our board and our core-volunteer group. Everyone
was happy to see the sun and to be enjoying such a beautiful day with
each other. These photos caught Sharon Barnard, Cheri Rider and Mary
Bittence (all Board Members) as well as Tracy McIvor, a die-hard
volunteer, hugging and smooching our furry, four-footed friends, such
as Madonna the pot belly pig, Mona Lisa the farm piggy, Natasha the
famous goat, and Penelope, a lovely little goat who was adopted into a
wonderful home!

April
15th, 2008 was a gorgeous day to capture the leisurely afternoon
adventures of some of the animals at Happy Trails. Sinatra, a
completely blind Standardbred gelding who retired from being an Amish
buggy horse, soaked up the sun and enjoyed the companionship of his
new horsy friends. Koda, a lovable, brown and white old paint guy is
looking good as he continues to recover and gain weight after coming
to the sanctuary as a severe starvation case. Houston and Tuscany hang
out in the center yard without much drama going on. Zeus, the resident
goose, and his gray-feathered pal, Quincy, make sure that everyone in
the yard minds their p's and q's. Malcolm and Queenie are doing a good
job of simply looking cute and cuddly. Pembroke the goat is trying to
not look like he's up to something (which he always is). And Beavis
and Sandy, two of Annette and Russ's personal rescued dogs, appear
rather relaxed on this beautiful, sunny day! Peaceful, calm and
tranquil - that's the way we try to keep things here at Happy Trails!
