** Update - June 15, 2008 **
Well summer is here in Virginia & we already had our first 100 degree weather - YUCK! We also have smoke from wild fires in North Carolina causing all kinds of breathing problems. Here's hoping things get under control for them soon and the flooding in Iowa.

I had a great weekend riding. My house is a disaster, the dishes need washing, the laundry hasn't been done, there's horse stuff everywhere, and the mowing hasn't been done in a few weeks, but I'm exhausted from all the riding I did the last two days, so it's staying that way... On Saturday morning, Selene and I took Roddy (Roderick of Croila) over to our friend Sara's place to school with one of her horses. I ended up riding way beyond my ability to handle the heat and ended up dunking my head in a cold bucket of water to get my breathing back to normal. But Roddy did really well - I still need a LOT of work :-) Roddy only had a couple of "stallion" moments and they were no big deal to handle. It was a good preparation for our show in two weeks & I have things to work on. Then that afternoon, I went over to Selene's where our Tilly has been for a week and we went on a trail ride working on some common trail issues of leaving your company and riding on your own, having the other rider leave you behind, etc...

On Sunday, our friends Jason & Donald with their two Quarter Horses came to Selene's and we went out on a 4 hour ride. Selene was on a little Arab gelding and me on Kellwould Tilly. It was great! Tilly is really coming along as a great little trail pony. She still has the usual "pony" issue of wanting to eat all the grass in site, but really is learning to accept the riders authority - finally! "Yes! we do mean what we say!" :-) It was a long ride & we were all tired at the end of it, but pleasantly so.

I'm really focused right now on this first show, so I've been neglecting other things. Sorry to all those phone calls I'm not making. It's long days and I just poop out. But it's all worth it. I'm have a blast working with Roddy and getting my riding back into shape. It's a long process to gain the confidence again, but Roddy is a generous partner.
Next update will be after the show - the last weekend of June - our first leg on getting to Kentucky Horse Park in September. Lots of ground to cover before then, but we're on our way!

Thank you to all the HPECA members that make it possible to have a network of people
devoted to Highlands in America. Our numbers are small, but our ponies are mighty!

Kellwould is no longer actively breeding Highland Ponies. We are devoting our energies to ownership & as Highland Pony Enthusiasts! We'll be heavily involved in the HPECA, getting a pony or two out showing, and having some fun trail riding.
Highland Pony Update November 2007:
There are currently approximately only 60 to 70 Highland Ponies in America & very few available for sale. Most of the mature, broke Highlands (that I know of) are in permanent homes at the moment. Your best bet to own a Highland Pony is to get involved with a breeder/ owner in your section of the country &/or consider raising a youngster.
There is a yearling colt for sale in Montana. See our "For Sale" page for details & contact info.
More ponies (including a few mature ponies) are listed on the HPECA Website - click on the Ad/ Links page.
