The American Shetland Pony Club was founded in 1888 as a registry to keep the pedigrees for all the Shetlands that were being imported from Europe at that time.

It has expanded to four separate breeds under one club: The Classic American Shetland Pony, The Modern American Shetland Pony, The American Miniature Horse Registry and The American Show Pony Registry.

We are the oldest and most versatile registry for small equine in the United States today and are located at 81 B East Queenwood, Morton, IL 61550, (309) 263-4044. You can call or write for a free brochure on any of our breeds.

Four Lucky Youth members win Shetland Ponies and Miniature Horses

Congratulations are in order for the four lucky winners of the Youth Essay Contests at Congress and AMHR Nationals this year. And a very special thanks to our members who generously donated these very exceptional small equines for the Youth Essay program.
The ASPC Youth Essay Contest winners were Kimberly Cotter and Kasey Waxler. Cotter won E’s Sir Nite, a five-year-old bay gelding who is an ’06 National Futurity and Modern Liberty national winner. Fran and Bill Eperthener, owners of E Training Center and Pony Farm, donated E’s Sir Nite.

Waxler won a buckskin colt named Cross Country’s Mr. Banker, donated by Belinda Bagby of Cross Country Farm. Mr. Banker is already a Grand Champion. He won the Grand Championships in the Area 5 and his class at Congress.

The 2008 AMHR National winners were Katherine Richey and Allison Payne who both won a miniature horse for their efforts. In the 13 to 17 age group Katherine Richey from Meridian, MS, won a miniature-weanling buckskin colt named Cross Country’s Born on the Bayou. Once again, Belinda Bagby, of Cross Country Farm and a member of the Board of Directors for the ASPC, donated Cross Country’s Born on the Bayou. In the 12 and under age group, Allison Payne from Degraff, MN, won a trained five-year-old black driving horse, COH Baccarra Grand Prix, donated by Marianne Eberth and Robin Mingione of Little King Farm.
