The Brooke - Having the vision to save - healing Marzouka's eye saved her foal too.

When Marzouka sustained an injury to her left eye, she began to lose her sight. The pain was so bad she couldn’t work or eat. Her loss of appetite also threatened the life of her foal, who was still suckling.

Thankfully, Dr Mostafa – a Brooke vet in Egypt – was able to ease Marzouka’s pain and administer antibiotics. He showed Marzouka’s owner, Abdesayed, how to clean the area, so it would heal properly.

When Brooke staff treat an animal there is always opportunity to help others. By sharing good animal welfare practices with willing owners, we can reach whole communities.

Knowing this, Dr Mostafa explained to Abdesayed how to care for his animals properly – by giving them the right food, enough water and treating them gently. Abdesayed was extremely grateful and promised to pass on what he’d learnt to others in his village.
