Darwin’s Dog Food – Raw Pet Food Delivery Reviews

We all know that Darwin had it right. Survival of the fittest. And when it comes to your pets, they need to be fit in order to fully thrive in their everyday lives. That’s why it’s important that you can make sure your food comes from not only natural but completely organic sources. There are so many varieties out there these days that make the claim to be organic, and what’s one of the main ingredients in it? Corn.

While corn isn’t completely unsafe, giving them food-based with vegetables as a primary source of their diet, there may be some slips and trips, and though it’s perfectly possible, dogs are meant to be omnivores, not vegans (although some dogs may have troubles with certain meats, when that is an acceptable reason for veganism in dog and cat food). Cats are the same way in this claim as well. In this review, we’ve found a solution in Darwin’s Natural Pet Food.

What Does Darwin’s Pet Food Offer?

Darwin’s pet food is completely raw. While your first impression and thought may be to cook it, you have to realize that your dogs and cats would be eating things in the wild, and they normally weren’t really meant to eat processed foods. Dogs and cats may be omnivores, but they actually thrive more by being carnivores than anything. They have bodies designed to eat raw meat and even chew through bones, so it’s important to know that while they can do well with a normal pet food (hard or soft) food diet that they’ll be alright, Darwin offers only the finest organic ingredients in a raw pouch, and it’s the main way for your pet to eat.

The main ingredient of protein is composed in Darwin’s raw pet food from chicken. We normally eat other parts of the chicken, so by processing together things like the chicken necks (which dogs can safely eat the bones of), chicken gizzards, chicken livers, hearts, and the meat, you can get a full protein diet and get extra calcium that is healthy for your dog or cat. It’s made with 100 percent free-range chickens and unlike most cat and dog foods out there, it’s the primary ingredient (making up 75 percent of the food base).

Other than that, the cat food doesn’t contain any vegetables, so they’ve got it packed with a ton of extra vitamins and minerals to give your cat what they need. If you don’t wish to give your pets simply the chicken variety, you can even select different packs of beef, duck, turkey, and even lamb as your meat sources. For dogs, they include a 25% addition of Yams, romaine lettuce, carrots, yellow squash, zucchini, celery, and even parsley. This just adds to the flavor and gives you extra vitamins. They do add a nutrient mix of flaxseed oil, sea salt, zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B), iodine and vitamin E.

How is this Food Processed?

When we first ordered the product, we didn’t know what to expect. We were expecting some foul-smelling food that was heavily processed, but what we got was literally everything we mentioned up simply ground into a palatable meal for our dog. It came frozen, so all we had to do was thaw it out and give it to our little Lady. We chose to go with the beef because it was something she was used to eating as far as regular meats go.

Every serving was conveniently packed in a large blister pack that was able to give us the right amount that she would eat, and despite her size being a chihuahua, she was able to wolf it down (she normally would make a bowl of regular dog food last all day, only eating a few pieces at a time). All of the food is processed with USDA human ingredients mostly from the United States (a few are from Australia, but while we may question some imports, we figured that Australia has always been pretty safe).

How Healthy Is It Really?

With all of the different meat sources (even from the same animal or different animals) in their food, your pet is getting the amino acids they need, the vitamins and micronutrients without the stomach upset, and they actually get full. Even when we give our dogs normal dry food, some dogs can literally eat it all day, or some of them may want more than one serving to be satisfied, maintain a healthy weight, or even engorge themselves because they can’t feel full.

By giving all of the dog’s nutrients to our dog, it literally seemed to balance everything out. She wasn’t constantly hungry, but she was eating better than she ever did. That means it’s about time somebody came up with a solution to this because many scientists in other dog food labs are still working on perfecting formulas and coming out with new ones. With Darwin’s raw pet food, you get a one type one meal serves all sort of food that covers every base in every serving.

Is There a Risk of Food Poisoning?

While feeding your dog food is just as safe as our own food, yes there have been a couple recalls since the start of the company, but despite them being in the market for as little time since they’ve been in business, it’s important to know that the recent recalls were all related to similar ingredients throughout many other dog food brands and natural dog food brands. All of This means that Darwin is safer than many other brands, as well as the fact that the food is processed, then immediately frozen to kill unwanted bacteria. What’s even better is that all ingredients are certified to be USDA tested to contain no traces of pesticides, and everything is made with non-GMO organic ingredients.

What is their Service Like?

When you sign up for Darwin’s pet food, it’s basically like getting a meal delivery service for your dog. You get 20 meals for your dog at under fifteen bucks, and they renew every month and send you another box. You can easily change your meal type, you don’t have to worry about portions, and everything is well-balanced to give your dog a healthy diet. If you don’t like one type of meat (or your dog doesn’t), you can simply have another choice sent to your doorstep. And you can cancel the subscription anytime. Also, if you’re looking for a tasty treat for your dog, you can order raw duck necks that aren’t ground up too (of course they come with a price)

If you’re looking for cons there aren’t many, but the main one is that Darwin’s pet products can be considered a little higher than some other cheaper alternatives which are dry dog foods or other wet foods. But when you spend money on your pet, you want to make sure you know what’s actually going into your food, and be able to see it. Not just guess because you get a brown paste no matter what “meat flavor” you get. With Darwin’s, you actually get the meat in the food you can choose, and by doing so, you’re able to see it before you give it to your dog as well.

Other than the price, there have been notable delivery issues a handful of people have complained about, but please do keep in mind that we have never had a problem, as many users and other customers haven’t either. If you look for reviews on their products, usually the problem is because of the shipping and not because of the actual production in the food itself. They’re also very responsive to their customers and always appreciate honest criticism. If you ever have a problem with your order, you can simply get ahold of them and speak to a representative for a resolution.

Conclusion: How Did it Do?

Darwin Dog Food is a completely natural source that dogs and cats can get their nutrients from. They don’t use anything that is harmful for your pet, and since all of their ingredients are organic and free of grains and GMO’s unlike many other dog foods, you know your dog is going to get the right amount of nutrients it should really have. If you wish to mix it with dry dog food (which we’ve done a couple times), you can simply do so. Either way, we were actually able to cut back how much dog food was consumed because our little Lady got to eat less of her dry dog food (only about 10 days’ worth, spaced out in between meals) and she was still satisfied.

As a personal experience, in comparison with other dog foods for the price of just under fifteen dollars for ten pounds of the product (less than Iams adult dog foods, one of America’s top big name brands), it was totally worth it. Lady had a problem with shedding and allergic reactions frequently to her food, so she had hot spots, but they started clearing up almost immediately. Therefore, we decided we were going to stick to this diet and see how it continues to work, because the benefits are so much more rewarding with Darwin’s food. And even though we primarily give this diet to our little doggy, we do have a bigger dog and even he gets a treat with the turkey necks.
