Bengal Cats and Dogs: Do The Get Along?

Here are the answers to all. Of your Bengal cat and dog questions.

Will They Get Along Together?

If you already have a dog, this is potentially another concern that you may have before you bring home a Bengal cat.  So, to answer the question of whether or not a Bengal cat and your dog will get along, the answer is usually. In fact, Vet Street has even given Bengal cats a rank of 5 out of 5 when it comes to getting along with dogs.

Just keep in mind that like people, every Bengal cat is going to be an individual as well.  This means that what may have worked for one Bengal cat owner, may not necessarily work for another Bengal cat owner.  Keeping that in mind, Bengal cats and dogs get along very well together most of the time. Bengal cats will associate better if your dog can become a playmate for them, which is great as it will also help both your pets burn off a little bit of extra energy together.

But What If My Bengal Doesn’t Like Dogs?

If you have a Bengal that simply doesn’t like your dog or accept them in any way, all is not lost.  Maybe you are thinking about getting a dog or your Bengal cat even spends most of their time around a dog.  Whatever the reason is for your Bengal cat not like your dog, this little quirk is going to need to be trained of your pet Bengal cat.

To train this out of your Bengal cat, it will essentially be the exact same thing as training your Bengal cat to do just about anything else.  You are going to want to be cautious when you are training them because they are more than likely going to have a very intense personality. If you are unable to deal with their negative behaviors in the correct manner, if they are tormenting or teasing your dog or any other type of negative behavior, they can potentially become aggressive when they are pressed to change.

If you try to discipline your Bengal cat and for whatever reason, it simply is not working, you may need to switch to some behavior therapy.  Bengal cats actually respond extremely well to it, but not to the more traditional methods that are used by most behaviorists. This is going to be something to keep in mind when you are looking for a behaviorist to help with your cat.
