After the rushing popularity in France and other European countries as a show dog, this breed was then named as the “French Bulldog”.

Recognizing its roots, the French Bulldog returned to England for dog shows. However, the Brits were not happy with the name “French” given to the breed since it was originally from England, but the name “French Bulldog” became fixed and stuck as the dog’s name.

This breed is also called as Bouledogue Françaisand got a nickname, “Frenchie”.

What Does a French Bulldog Look Like?

The French Bulldog is a miniature toy dog with a sturdy and compact body built.

  • Large square head with a rounded forehead
  • Broad muzzle and precise stop
  • Black nose (but may be fairer in lighter colored dogs)
  • Round, dark colored eyes that are noticeable and set wide apart
  • Broad, bat-like ears that stand in a triangular shape with rounded tips

  • 22 – 28 pounds (10 – 13 kg)

Frenchies are good for apartment living. They can be fairly dynamic and vigorous indoors but having a yard is not necessary. However, temperature extremes are not good for them. Most of the French Bulldogs cannot swim so take extra caution around bodies of water.

How to Groom a French Bulldog?

A Frenchie’s coat color may have different combinations and variations. Some of the colors are brindle, cream, fawn, white and black. Some color combinations of the Frenchie are:
