Bengal Kitten Price: How Much Are Bengals in 2019?
If you are interested in having a Bengal cat as a pet, you have probably thought about how much they cost. When it does come to how much a Bengal kitten is going to cost you, you will find that there are actually many different quotes for all of the different prices out there. This is due to their individual cost varying upon several different factors. These factors include things such as their generation ratings and their coat type.
Bengal Kittens Generation Ratings
If you are looking to get a Bengal cat, then you probably already know that they are a cross between an Asian Leopard cat and a regular domestic cat. Because of this, there is a generations rating that is completely based off of how many generations have gone by after the original breeding of the wild ancestor. Essentially this simply measures how many generations it has been since the original domestic cat and Asian Leopard cat that started this kittens bloodline.
When a breeder does breed a Bengal cat and an Asian Leopard cat, the corresponding kittens are going to be called F1s. When one of these female F1 kittens is taken and bred with a different male Bengal cat, that litter of kittens is going to be considered a litter of F2s. When one of these F2 females is bred with a male Bengal cat, that litter of kittens will be referred to as F3s. Then finally, when one of the F3 females is bred with a male Bengal cat, this will be the fourth generation of that particular bloodline or an F4. Any generation moving forwards will normally be referred to as just Bengals. As somebody who is interested in having a Bengal cat as a pet, it is typically better to have a kitten that is either F4 or higher, as these cats are normally going to be a much better pet.
As for how much one of these kittens is going to cost you, that all depends upon how many generations that cat you are thinking about getting has been removed from their wild ancestor. That being said, an F1 Bengal cat is going to be the most expensive, followed by an F2 kitten, then an F3 kitten, and so on. If you are dead set on getting an F1 kitten, it can get a little pricy, varying anywhere between $2,000 to $10,000. It all simply depends on whether or not the kitten you want is a female that is pet quality, or if they are more of a breeding and show quality.
A male F1 Bengal kitten is going to cost you roughly $1,500. You may be thinking that this is a huge contrast when compared to the female F1s, and you would be right. The reason for the giant difference in price though, is that all of the F1 male Bengal cats are born sterile. If you are interested in an F2 or F3 male, you can expect to pay between $1,500 and $5,000. For the males, it all just depends upon the quality and their markings. With that being said, if you are lucky, you may be able to find a breeder who will still have some of the older Bengal cats on hand, or even a breeder who has retired may sell them to you at a largely reduced price.
There are also occasions where you may be able to find and adult Bengal cat at one of the Bengal cat rescue shelters, which should allow you to purchase one for between $150 and $200.
Bengal Cat Coat Types
When it comes to Bengal cats, each one is going to have a wide variety of different coat types. These coat types are going to greatly influence how much you will need to pay if you want to take them home as a pet. The most common types of coats when it does come to Bengal cats is going to be either marbled, snot, or spotted. If you do a little research on Bengal cats, you will discover that there are actually three different types of spotted Bengal cat:
- Sorrel spotted
- Leopard spotted
- Charcoal spotted
When it comes to marbled coated Bengals, there are going to be two different types of coats:
- Sorrel marble
- Tri-color marble
As for snow coated Bengals, there are going to be four different types:
- Seal mink
- Charcoal
- Seal lynx point
- Seal sepia
When it comes to the pricing of a Bengal kitten, the coat is definitely going to play a major role in it. This is mainly due to some coat markings being much more rare and uncommon when compared to some of the other markings. On top of that, some coats are just going to be in a higher demand than some of the other ones, which also plays a role in increasing the price that you are going to have to pay.
For example, a Snow Bengal kitten is considered to be one of the rarer types of Bengal cats. Because of this, it is one of the most sought-after type of Bengal cat available. All of these factors mean that this type of kitten is going to be a whole lot more expensive than some of the other ones. The next most expensive type of Bengal cat is going to be any spotted Bengal kitten. What is odd about this, is the fact that Bengal kittens with marbled coats are actually rarer than the spotted coat ones, but the spotted coat ones are in a much higher demand, which makes them more expensive.
When you are looking to get a Bengal cat as a pet, your best bet is going to be getting it from an official Bengal cat breeder. You may get lucky and find them for sale at a pet store or even a Bengal cat rescue, but that only happens on extremely rare occasions. And just keep in mind that most Bengal kittens are going to be much more expensive than any adult Bengal cat.
